The 13th Zodiac Sign: Ophiuchus

13th-sign
Picture yourself relaxing in your favorite chair, engrossed in your favorite tabloid. Naturally, you decide to flip to the horoscope section to discover the general events that await you today, the lucky color that will bring you good fortune, and the numbers you should consider for the lottery. This has been your routine ever since you discovered the world of horoscopes. But then, a shocking revelation hits you while watching TV: there are actually 13 Zodiac signs, not 12! Oh my goodness! Could it be that your current sign isn't your true sign? The horror! Just think of all the missed opportunities for good luck when you wore green instead of red, chose different lottery numbers, or went on a date with that girl who smelled like a foot...

According to Wikipedia, Ophiuchus, dubbed "the 13th Zodiac sign" by the media, is a large constellation situated along the celestial equator. Its name, derived from Greek, means "serpent-bearer." Ophiuchus is represented by a figure holding a snake (hence the name), which is symbolized by the constellation Serpens. Ptolemy, the second-century astronomer, included Ophiuchus among the 48 constellations he listed, and it remains one of the 88 modern constellations.

But why on Earth is it considered the 13th Zodiac sign?

(Alright, let's dive into this. Luckily, I've done some research on the topic.)

We have something called the ecliptic, which is the apparent path the Sun follows across the celestial sphere throughout the year. I won't delve into the complexities, but in simple terms, the ecliptic is divided into twelve equal sections of celestial longitude known as the Zodiac. These Zodiac signs represent the constellations positioned along this path. Now, Ophiuchus happens to lie between the constellations Scorpius and Sagittarius.

So, why wasn't Ophiuchus included if it's located on the ecliptic like the other constellations in the Zodiac?

As I mentioned, the ecliptic is divided into 12 equal sections, each spanning 30 degrees. The Zodiac signs are simply abstractions of the constellations found along the ecliptic. The folks who originated this system decided to use the names of these constellations, perhaps thinking it would sound cool. As for why Ophiuchus was excluded, we can only speculate. Maybe they didn't like the name, perhaps they drew straws, or maybe they had personal aversions to a man carrying a snake due to past negative experiences. We can only guess and never truly know.

The key point is that the Zodiac represents the sections of the ecliptic where the Sun travels and completes its journey in a year. Twelve sections for twelve months. Do you see where I'm going with this? The presence of another constellation doesn't matter because they are simply representations! Dividing the ecliptic into 13 sections would complicate matters further!

Now, the burning question remains: how does this revelation affect your horoscope?

In no way, my friend. Zodiac signs and astrology have no impact on how you live your life. Instead of relying on your daily horoscope, why not focus on finding meaningful ways to improve your life and not depend on luck alone?

As for the lucky color, let's go with beige, and for the lucky numbers, consider 3, 14, 35, 69, 21, and 8.
