Miss You Like Crazy

I'm not the type of person who enjoys spending time watching mainstream movies that are solely made to line the producers' pockets. I'm not particularly drawn to films that rely on popular actors to carry the story, often neglecting the need for a compelling plot or well-crafted script. Besides, the actors they cast aren't even that impressive. Well, let me rephrase that. I can't really judge their talent because the scripts they work with limit their ability to showcase their skills. Here in the Philippines, it seems being considered a good actor is determined by your willingness to get hit in the face (actually hit) by a co-actor or engage in an on-screen kiss with someone of the same gender.

However, I found myself reluctantly watching one of these films due to the persuasion of someone who is really into this genre.

While writing this, a question popped into my mind: Do I need to delve into the story further? Well, it's the same tired plot that has been recycled countless times, with a few minor tweaks. A dissatisfied boy crosses paths with a heartbroken girl. Somehow, they manage to connect. Enter a third party who drives a wedge between them. The boy and girl part ways. Then, by some twist of fate, they encounter each other again in the not-so-distant future. One of them is now involved with someone new (usually the one who was dumped), while the other (the dumper) desperately seeks forgiveness and does whatever it takes to win back their former partner. The dumped one initially resists (cue: a slap to the face) and says no to the dumper. But eventually, the dumped one has a change of heart and reunites with the dumper. Everyone is happy, they go home, blissfully unaware that they paid for something they've already seen a million times, albeit with slight variations.

Another perplexing aspect is the titles of these mainstream films. They often share the same title as their original soundtracks. Can't they be more creative with their naming conventions? Personally, I find it intriguing when a film's title makes me question the reasoning behind it, and watching the movie provides the answer. Knowing that the title is merely linked to the soundtrack in such a straightforward manner lacks depth and challenge.

Now, would I recommend this film to you? I don't want to pass judgment on those who have watched or enjoyed watching this movie, but if you're seeking a compelling story, I wouldn't recommend it. It would be a complete waste of your valuable time and money. However, I must admit that the cinematography was truly impressive; it's the only aspect of the movie that I genuinely appreciated. Wow, I think I've been watching too much American Idol. I'm starting to sound like Simon.
