Dolphy at 80

Today, we celebrate the 80th birthday of the King of Comedy. This milestone not only marks a special occasion but also presents an opportunity for some individuals to profit from the longevity of this beloved figure. Similarly, people often capitalize on the fame of celebrities even after their passing. In the case of Dolphy, if you happen to possess any memorabilia associated with him, now might be an opportune time to consider selling it at a favorable price. As I witness someone reaching such an age, it leads me to contemplate how many years I will have before my own journey ends. Personally, I do not aspire to reach the age of 80. Dolphy's disciplined approach to exercise and healthy eating contributes to his well-being. However, as a self-proclaimed lazy individual who indulges in fast food, if I were to reach that age, I would likely find myself as an overweight elderly man confined to a bed with medical apparatus providing necessary support. I wish to avoid such a predicamen...

Rumors Confirmed

Image
I may not be up to date with the latest news, but I'm thrilled to have finally confirmed the rumors that have been circulating. It's true! There will be an Eraserheads reunion, even if it's just for one night! On August 30, 2008, Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala, and Raimund Marasigan will reunite on stage and perform once again as the iconic band, the Eraserheads. The much-anticipated concert will take place at the CCP open grounds. As I read this news, a wave of nostalgia washes over me. The band whose music I grew up with will be playing those beloved songs once more. An Eraserheads song is more than just a song; it carries with it memories unique to each one of us who cherished their music. Do you recall the time when you tirelessly practiced playing "Ligaya" on your guitar to serenade your crush? Or when you cranked up the volume and belted out "Pare Ko" on your dad's karaoke machine while drowning your sorrows in beer after being rejecte...

Bootleg Vs. Original: Quantity or Quality?

The new Batman movie recently premiered in theaters, and personally, I consider it a must-see film. There are a few reasons why I'm excited about it. Firstly, this is Heath Ledger's final movie before his untimely death, so watching it feels like paying tribute to him. Secondly, Batman has an incredibly cool bike that adds to the excitement. And finally, it's a Batman movie! I mean, who doesn't enjoy seeing Batman in his iconic costume with the utility belt, cape, and mask? Well, there are also villains like Joker, Penguin, Two-Face, Riddler, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze... Sorry, I got a bit off track there. Life can be tough. Why did they have to release a movie that I really want to see when I'm broke? And yes, I'm aware that there are many people out there who are struggling to meet their basic needs. Now I face a difficult decision. Should I spend P120 to watch the movie alone, or should I wait a week after its release and buy a bootleg DVD, which is already a cl...

Job Hunt

It has been almost a month since I left my last job, and for the past three weeks, I've been without work. Although I'm still tutoring, I feel the need to find a proper job. I've been seeking suggestions and planning my job hunt, aiming for a solid strategy. I don't want to wander aimlessly or settle for just anything. During my research, I came across various tips on where to apply for jobs. It made me realize the abundance of opportunities available here in the Philippines without the need to go abroad. So why do many Filipinos often complain about the lack of job opportunities? Is it truly a scarcity, or are we simply not putting in enough effort to find them? While some companies may require a college degree, as an undergraduate, I've identified five companies where I can potentially apply. It's essential to closely examine all possibilities and not shy away from asking for recommendations. While having a college degree certainly provides an advantage, it do...

Easy Way Out

"When all of the world says we won't make it through, we'll battle the world..." There comes a point in a person's life when exhaustion takes hold. A moment where countless options flood your mind, leaving you paralyzed with indecision. You grow weary of it all, yearning for a time when choices were made for you when the weight of responsibility wasn't solely on your shoulders. But reality beckons, reminding you that you are on your own. The choices you make shape your identity, but if you cannot make a choice, who are you then? A hollow vessel wandering aimlessly on this earth? Or are you simply lost, like an angst-ridden teenager with smeared eyeliner, immersed in the music that resonates with their confusion? And then, that moment arrives. Your mind becomes a chaotic maze, thoughts colliding and merging until they blur into a formless mass. It feels like being in the midst of a raucous concert, yet all you hear is deafening silence. Is this what they call p...

Maggots Love Earwax

Last night, while watching Imbestigador, I was genuinely appalled by what I witnessed. And no, I'm not referring to the segments that host Mike Enriquez often favors, which typically revolve around sex-related issues. Instead, they featured a segment highlighting the exploitation of young gay boys who were being paid to perform live sex shows online. However, there was another feature that left me utterly shocked—a baby with live maggots in her ear. The distressed baby cried incessantly, and her parents were at a loss as to what to do. They hurriedly took her to the nearest clinic upon noticing a small amount of blood dripping from her ear. The doctor swiftly examined the child's ear and was taken aback to discover a squirming maggot inside. With tweezers in hand, he gently removed the maggot, and although the video footage was blurred, it was enough to make me unleash a stream of expletives. Maggots are undeniably creepy and deeply unsettling to me. As if that wasn't alrea...

The Cold

Is there anything that I could do or say That would make you smile or even look at me? If not, what would be the reason? Do you mind telling me? I stood outside your door on a cold, stormy night Every inch of me was shaking You are the one who gives me warmth Without you, I will die from the cold. I started this fire but it’s nothing compared to you My mind is full of anger and misery I try to remove all of it When will the sun shine on my life? I am dying from the cold

“This is all for you, Damien!”

Last night, I watched the movie "The Omen," and it completely terrified me! Typically, I'm not a fan of scary movies. However, I had heard about this particular film and had been meaning to watch it for quite some time. The opportunity finally presented itself when it aired on Star Movies last night. This is the kind of scary movie I can handle, unlike brutally gory films like "Final Destination," "Saw III," or "Dawn of the Dead." I tend to lean towards what I consider "psychological" horror films, and "The Omen" delivered on that front in the most chilling way possible. It's been ages since a movie has evoked such heightened senses in me. You know that feeling when every little sound in your house becomes amplified, and you find yourself investigating even the slightest noise, only to discover nothing out of the ordinary? Or when the slightest movement catches your peripheral vision, causing you to swiftly turn your h...

The Next Half

Welcome to the latter half of 2008. I found myself quite bored, which led me to create this blog. I had a previous blog, but it was in Tagalog. Since my English writing skills were getting rusty, I decided to practice again. I ended up trashing the old blog since it hadn't been updated in ages. A multitude of events took place during the past six months. But don't worry, I won't bore you to death with a recap of all the news. Instead, I'll bore you to death by sharing what happened to me during that time. Exciting, isn't it? Let me begin by discussing a setback in my life. I failed to conform to the expectations of the "system" that requires a piece of paper called a "diploma" to validate one's worth in society. I'm uncertain whether this is detrimental or not. Should I desire to be judged solely based on my credentials? Or perhaps I should seek a different "system," one that recognizes my skills and talents without the unnecess...
