Job Hunt
It has been almost a month since I left my last job, and for the past three weeks, I've been without work. Although I'm still tutoring, I feel the need to find a proper job. I've been seeking suggestions and planning my job hunt, aiming for a solid strategy. I don't want to wander aimlessly or settle for just anything.
During my research, I came across various tips on where to apply for jobs. It made me realize the abundance of opportunities available here in the Philippines without the need to go abroad. So why do many Filipinos often complain about the lack of job opportunities? Is it truly a scarcity, or are we simply not putting in enough effort to find them? While some companies may require a college degree, as an undergraduate, I've identified five companies where I can potentially apply. It's essential to closely examine all possibilities and not shy away from asking for recommendations.
While having a college degree certainly provides an advantage, it doesn't diminish your worth if you don't have one. You possess skills and talents that can be leveraged to your advantage. Patience is key, as there are many companies that hire individuals without a college degree, some even requiring only a high school diploma. It's important to remember that the job may not be easy, but it is still a job. Learn to appreciate it, and it will become more fulfilling.
Now, let's shift the focus back to my favorite topic: me. I've been preparing for my job hunt, making sure I have everything I need. The first and most crucial item on the list is my resume. Think of it as the trailer for a movie, the advertisement for a beauty product, or the free taste of wine. Your resume is your ticket to either the "For Interview" list or the "Don't call us, we'll call you" list. Therefore, it should be neat, free from creases, and concise yet specific, containing all the necessary information within 2-3 pages. Anything longer becomes excessive. It's also wise to have at least five copies of your resume ready, as you never know when an extra copy might come in handy.
The photo on your resume is another crucial aspect. Imagine participating in a pageant or reality show where the winner is determined by the professional look of their ID photo. Keeping that in mind, I had to shave off my beard, which I had let grow during my three weeks of soul-searching. Afterward, my mom jokingly asked where I had been and if I was held hostage by an Abu Sayyaf member.
Additionally, make sure you have your requirements such as NBI clearance and SSS ID ready. Some companies may request these documents during the application process, while others may ask for them once you are hired. Obtaining these documents can be a hassle, so it's advisable to obtain them early. Don't delay, start the process now!
Lastly, don't forget to bring some money with you. Remember, you're a human being, and you need to eat and drink. The application process for a company can be time-consuming, and you wouldn't want to pass out due to hunger or thirst after waiting for hours during an interview.
Now, why am I sharing all these with you? I honestly have no idea. I'm not an expert, so please don't take everything I say as gospel. These insights are purely based on my personal experience, which may not be extensive.
Wishing you a successful and enjoyable job-hunting journey!
