The Hopeful Pessimist

A few weeks ago, I shared that I applied for an internal vacancy at work. Now, let me fill you in on what unfolded... I received an email informing me about a final interview for the position. Three of us were shortlisted, and I mentally prepared myself for an inevitable conversation with unfamiliar individuals, vying for a position where I felt barely qualified. As any introvert would attest, this was no easy task. And trust me, I speak from personal experience as an introvert. The day before the interview, I was working the night shift. I received an email instructing me to call the hiring manager at 9 AM the following day. Throughout my shift, my mind was preoccupied with the upcoming interview scheduled for the following afternoon. I finally arrived home around 8 AM, watching some Louis CK videos to keep myself awake until the 9 AM call time. At 8:59, I made the call. The hiring manager requested that I submit an essay about my experiences in the company so far, with a word limi...

TWD Season 7 Premiere (Spoiler-free Review)

Image
I just finished watching the season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, and I'm finding it hard to put my emotions into words. I'm still overwhelmed and feeling quite emotional at the moment. First and foremost, I must applaud the entire cast for their incredible performances, although I can't help but feel a little disappointed that Chandler Riggs' character wasn't the one beaten to death by Negan. Oops, sorry if that came across as a spoiler. Andrew Lincoln's portrayal of Rick was truly astonishing. He conveyed the desperation and anguish so powerfully that it resonated with me deeply. I must also give credit to Jeffrey Dean Morgan for successfully making us despise his character with a passion. Greg Nicotero, the mastermind behind the episode, deserves immense praise for evoking such intense emotions within me. I'm not sure if I can gather the strength to watch the next episode, but who am I kidding? I'll probably end up watching it anyway. Well, that...

Last Exit

Image
After successfully passing the road test on her first attempt, my cousin Gileena finally obtained her UAE driver's license. Considering the difficulty I've heard about, this achievement was no small feat. To commemorate this milestone, our entire family and close friends decided to embark on a mini road trip to Last Exit. Situated just beyond Interchange 11 of Sheikh Zayed Road en route to Dubai, Last Exit is a remarkable food truck park located near the Dubai-Abu Dhabi boundary. This charming establishment offers a diverse range of food trucks, each serving delightful culinary creations and refreshing beverages that would satiate any cravings. Whether you preferred a quick drive-thru or a dine-in experience, Last Exit had you covered. We opted for the latter as we wanted to capture some memorable photos during our visit. Overall, the experience was fantastic. The atmosphere was delightful, providing a welcoming respite for weary travelers. While the prices were slightly on the...

Hero

Image
“I believe there's a hero in all of us that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most. Even our  dreams .” - Rosemary Harris, Spiderman 2 In my case, there are 4 heroes in my underpants holding all my shit together. I'm just gonna leave this here because why not. Cheers!

Long Shot

There was an internal vacancy at my workplace for a marketing executive position. Despite having minimal professional marketing experience, I decided to give it a shot. I may not be a marketing expert, but I do possess some knowledge in the field. Now, at 34 years old, I've spent enough time surrounded by overachievers to develop a tiny bit of that mentality myself. A nagging voice inside me asks, "Why are you still in an entry-level position at your age, you fool?" With a pessimistic mindset, I submitted my application. I tend to think negatively, so if I don't get the position, I won't be too disappointed. But if I do succeed, it'll be a pleasant surprise. Isn't that a more amusing way to approach life? (Note the sarcasm.) For now, I'm eagerly awaiting updates on the application. If I'm called in for an interview, I'll have to give myself a pep talk since I detest interviews. Stay tuned for any developments, or the lack thereof. Cheers!

Schrödinger's Bugsweeper part 2

Here we fucking go again... But then I got to correct box!

The Construction Site Next Door

I find great joy in the perpetual construction happening right beside our apartment building. The delightful noise produced by their heavy machinery, persisting even into the late hours, simply warms my heart. It seems they are fervently striving to meet their deadline. Their apparent lack of consideration for individuals seeking a peaceful slumber is truly endearing. Oh, how I adore it! Truly, I do. In the same vein, I hold an equal fondness for putrid cabbages and the esteemed Kris Aquino. Cheers!

If This Then That

Image
I’ve been tinkering around with my blog. Every time that I post something here, I routinely share it on my Facebook timeline. So I’ve been looking for a way to have this happen automatically without me having to click the Facebook share button after publishing the post. Yes, I’m that lazy. After a few minutes of research (read: Google), I found out that the option to automatically share blog posts on the Facebook Note app has been removed a few years back. Unfazed, I continue to look for other alternatives on how I can accomplish such a daunting task. I then discover this site or app called IFTTT. IFTTT stands for If This Then That . If you ever paid attention to your computer teacher during Excel classes, then I’m pretty sure you’re aware of If-Then statements (this sentence right here is an example of an if-then statement). This is basically what IFTTT does. You can have any app that is connected to the internet do an if-then command with IFTTT. For example, you can au...

Fried Chicken Skin

Image
As I entered the office, a foil parcel awaited me atop a drawer, a familiar tradition among my colleagues. Although we were provided with complimentary meals at work, venturing to the staff cafeteria meant a 10-minute walk and a train ride, consuming a significant portion of our one-hour break. Consequently, we opted to bring food to the office, allowing us to enjoy our break together. Any surplus food was passed on to the next shift, exemplifying our camaraderie. Wrapped in a layer of aluminum foil, the parcel aroused my excitement, for it could only mean one thing: fried chicken skin. Near our office, there existed another cafeteria, albeit without complimentary meals. However, they sold an indulgent delight—sinfully crispy fried chicken skin meticulously wrapped in double layers of foil. To those unacquainted with the concept of fried chicken skin, allow me to elaborate. It is precisely what the name suggests—chicken skin that has been deep-fried. While some may find it repulsive, ...
