Long Shot
There was an internal vacancy at my workplace for a marketing executive position. Despite having minimal professional marketing experience, I decided to give it a shot. I may not be a marketing expert, but I do possess some knowledge in the field.
Now, at 34 years old, I've spent enough time surrounded by overachievers to develop a tiny bit of that mentality myself. A nagging voice inside me asks, "Why are you still in an entry-level position at your age, you fool?"
With a pessimistic mindset, I submitted my application. I tend to think negatively, so if I don't get the position, I won't be too disappointed. But if I do succeed, it'll be a pleasant surprise. Isn't that a more amusing way to approach life? (Note the sarcasm.)
For now, I'm eagerly awaiting updates on the application. If I'm called in for an interview, I'll have to give myself a pep talk since I detest interviews.
Stay tuned for any developments, or the lack thereof.
Cheers!
