World Photography Day: I’m Doing the 365 Challenge
Last night, I came across a passionate video by Peter McKinnon where he expresses his frustration about Instagram no longer being a platform that prioritizes community for photographers. You can watch the video here:
To some extent, Peter McKinnon's observations hold true. Instagram, which was once a prominent photo-sharing platform, has shifted its focus towards short mobile videos, potentially in response to the popularity of TikTok. I've also noticed an increase in reels and advertisements flooding the Instagram feed.
In the video, Peter mentions an alternative app he's been using to share his photos called Vero. Despite its existence for a while now, Vero seems to have flown under the radar. It positions itself as similar to Instagram in terms of content-sharing but distinguishes itself as "ad-free" and "algorithm-free." Intrigued by this concept, I decided to download the app and give it a try. Upon initial exploration, it appears to hold promise as a potential alternative to Instagram.
I wanted to begin something new on this platform, and while watching the same YouTube video, Peter McKinnon inspired me to embark on the 365-day photography challenge.
Curious about how the challenge works? The Expert Photography website provides a monthly list of daily prompts, and I have to capture a photo based on the given prompt for each day. As today is World Photography Day, I've decided to start today, and conveniently, the prompt for today is "Your choice."
For this challenge, I'll be sharing my photos on the Vero app as well as on this blog. Do you happen to have a Vero account?
Let's follow each other and create a community where creators can share their work with one another. Together, we can make this platform a hub for creativity and collaboration.
