Sucker Junior
Yesterday, a South Korean boy band performed a concert at SM Mall of Asia Arena, and the news showed numerous teenage girls going crazy over them, armed with posters and other merchandise.
I find it puzzling.
Did we suddenly experience a shortage of talented musicians in the industry? Why do they worship a boy band whose songs we can't even understand? I don't have anything against these guys; I personally enjoy the music of many foreign artists. However, I prefer to appreciate them based on understanding the meaning behind their songs. Their appearance is not the primary factor for me (although I must admit, I do enjoy looking at Katy Perry more than listening to her).
Ultimately, it is the music and the lyrics that hold the most significance. I must acknowledge that there are some Asian groups with beautiful songs, even if I don't comprehend the language. Their music is pleasant to listen to. Nevertheless, I wouldn't spend thousands of pesos to attend their concert because it doesn't make any sense to me. One of the girls interviewed by the reporter even borrowed money for the ticket and will be paying it off in installments. It's frustrating. That money could have been put to better use by donating it to the victims of the earthquake in Bohol or helping her parents pay for her education. It might be acceptable if you're wealthy. But damn, borrowing a significant amount of money just to see some cute boys who, FYI, don't even care about you. To them, you're merely a group of cash signs screaming and wanting to take pictures with them.
Anyway, it's their life. If those girls want to appear foolish while drooling over those boys, who have better skin than they do and will also drain their wallets, they can be my guest.
