I assume everyone has heard about Filipino Music Icon Freddie Aguilar’s relationship with a 16-year old girl. The 60-year old musician said he was not aware of the girl’s age when he started to court her. When he realized that she was way under age, it was too late because he’s already head over heels in love with her.

Ka Freddie has mixed responses for this issue. Some people now look up to him (even more than before) because of achieving the ultimate dream of older guys: getting a hot young girl. Others are criticizing him and calling him a DOM. On the other hand, the girl is somehow the victim. There’s no positive view of her position in this society. She’s either a dumb little girl that was seduced by an old guy or a manipulative bitch that uses her youth to get what she wants, e.g. money.

I don’t give a fuck about it. They both chose to go this way and who are we to criticize them? It’s their fucking life. Instead of fussing about other people’s personal life, why don’t we all just worry about our own lives? Whatever happens to them at the end, whether they have a happy ending or not, it’s their choice and their ending, not ours.

Here we have another movie adaptation of a book, which seems to be the prevailing trend these days. Sometimes I ponder why anyone would bother buying a book when a movie version is soon to follow. A friend of mine has a habit of watching the movie first and then reading the book for comparison. I advised her not to bother because, more often than not, the book always surpasses the movie. Watching a movie based on a book is like witnessing someone else's interpretation of the story, and that someone has to alter the context significantly. It's understandable since Hollywood has its limitations, unlike the boundless realms of our imaginations. The film's producers can't faithfully replicate the book word for word due to constraints of budget and time. So here's my advice to you: If you're a fan of the book, stick with it.
