It’s UFC 167 and
they’re celebrating 20 years of MMA awesome-ness.
Elliot vs
Bagautinov (good luck pronouncing that).
- The referee
for this fight is a woman. I don’t have anything against female referees but
this is MMA. How will a woman stop a brawl between two men? But then the
referee is a foot taller than both of the fighters so I guess she can manage.
- Elliot almost
gets Bagautinov with a guillotine choke. Instead, he’s fucking slammed to the
ground.
- Bagautinov
lands plenty of clean shots. Elliot gives a wicked take down at the end of the
3rd round.
- At the end,
Bagautinov wins by decision.
Kosheck vs.
Woodley
- Woodley knocks
Kosheck twice in the first round. Kosheck kinda recovered from the first hit,
but obviously went to sleep on the second. TKO victory.
Macdonald vs.
Lawler
- Old school vs.
Young gun
- Macdonald is a
lot younger but appears to have more experience compared to Lawler. Each move
is very calculated in the first round. Not something any one would expect from
a young fighter.
- Macdonald
starts to get a little more aggressive on the second round with a take down and
some ground and pound. But Lawler still fights back hard.
- Lawler almost
knocks out Macdonald but was not able to capitalize on it. Macdonald takes down
Lawler one last time during the last ten seconds and delivers a barrage of
elbows for some points from the judges. Lawler still won by split decision.
Evans vs.
Shonnen
- Most of the
first round was all technical fighting. It looks boring if you don’t understand
what they’re doing.
- Evans was able
to take down and dominate Shonnen during the last two minutes of the round.
Fight was stopped by the ref due to the huge shots all on the head of Shonnen.
TKO victory.
Main event:
Saint-Pierre vs. Hendricks
- I’m all up for
GSP on this one. But Hendricks does have the power to knock anyone out. This is
going to be a great fight.
- The first
round made me realize that GSP is gonna have a hard time in this fight. In
other fights, he can easily control the enemy’s movements on the ground but
Hendricks is different. I think he can actually overpower GSP.
- GSP got a lot
of hard elbows on the side of his head.
- On the second
round, Hendricks gave an upper cut that wobbled GSP. Lucky for GSP that
Hendricks dropped his mouthpiece and the fight was stopped for a few seconds,
just enough time for him to recover.
- Hendricks’
power seemed to have lessened on this round. GSP is relentlessly attacking. It
seems they’re equally matched.
- 3rd
round. GSP landed a lot of significant punches. Hendricks’ power seemed to have
drained out. Just when I thought it was going to be a striking round, Hendricks
takes down GSP but he quickly gets out of it.
- 4th
round, GSP slips and falls down. Hendricks takes advantage and delivers some
vicious ground and pound. Fight goes the distance.
- 5th
round, both give everything they got. GSP is in trouble, if he doesn’t do
something significant in this round he will definitely lose his title. I didn’t
see anything significant.
- GSP wins by
split decision. Hendricks is dismayed. Honestly, despite being a fan of GSP, I
am also dismayed with the decision. Based on what I’ve seen, Hendricks deserves
to win.
- GSP announced
that he will be taking a break indefinitely, probably thinking about retiring
all together.
And that’s that.
Now I shall wait for the Weidman-Silva rematch on UFC 168 on Dec. 28, 2013.
